| Subject: Sea Enchantress, The Tale of the Mermaid and her Kin, by Benwell & Waugh Thu Sep 25, 2008 11:13 pm | |
| Sea Enchantress by Benwell & Waugh is a book fist published in 1961 on mermaids and, of course, their kin. It first goes into the detail of the origins of merpeople sightings. It disagrees with the age old theory of dugongs being mistaken for mermaids. It describes their swimming patterns, and describes their lazy nature of not even wanting to surface for air. (In fact, usually the only time dugongs do surface, besides for air, is to let their young suckle on their teats) Instead it goes into detail about certain types of seals, and the possobilities of them being mistaken for mermaids. It also goes into great depth about seals relationship to mermaids, and the information is surprisingly accurate. I would recomend anyone who has not read this book to read it, and I am setting up this thread for those who wish to ask questions about the book, or discuss certain topics that are brought up within the book. | |
